Southern Nevada Section

About the Southern Nevada Local Section

The Southen Nevada Local Section of the American Chemical Society consists of roughly 250 members that live in the southern part of Nevada.  Local section activities are conducted primarily in the Las Vegas Area.  Up until a few years ago the section was known as the Boulder Dam Section.

The section conducts a variety of events during each year and occassionally hosts a regional event such as the recent Western Regional Meeting in 2008.

  1. Local section meetings occur during the early and latter part of the year, generally January - May and September - November.  Since meetings do not occur at the same time or place members should have an e-mail or regular mail address on file so that they can be notified of meetings.  Meeting announcements typically include a biography of the speaker and an abstract of the talk.
  2. Several community outreach events occur each year, Chemistry Olympiad, National Chemistry Week, and Chemists Celebrate Earth Day.
  3. The section sponsors student groups at UNLV and CSN.
  4. There is a high school chemistry teachers group.

The local section operates under the guideance of a local executive committee.
